Great Train Run 20 February 2011 The route is made up of 8 stages varying in length between 2.8km and 6.5km. Anybody is welcome to join us for some or all of these stages. Please contact me as soon as possible, if you are interested. In 2001, we will not be running as fast as in 2010 (probably about 30 sec per km slower). Start at Independence Square at 4:30am sharp !!! Stage 1: From Independence Square to Salters (STOP #1 = 6.5km, arrival time 5:00 to 5:10am) Distance: about 6.5km, 2010 pace: 5:18 min/km Terrain: slightly uphill, mostly road, some cart road at the end You will need a head lamp or other light for this stage. You have the option to stay on the road from ABC highway to Salters (STOP#1) Stage 2: From somewhere between Rouens/Salters to Windsor/HW5 (STOP #2 = 11.7km, arrival time 5:30 to 5:45am) Distance: about 5.2km, 2010 pace: 5:27 min/km Terrain: flat, rocky, grassy, cart road You will need a head lamp or other light for this stage. Stage 3: From Windsor/HW5 to Sunbury House (STOP #3 = 15.4km, arrival time 6:00 to 6:20am) Distance: about 4.7km, 2010 pace: 5:28 min/km Terrain: flat, cart road You will need a head lamp or other light for this stage. Stage 4: From Sunbury House to Three Houses (STOP #4 = 22.0km, arrival time 6:30 to 6:55am) Distance: about 5.7km, 2010 pace: 5:11 min/km Terrain: flat, cart road I would recommend a head lamp or other light for this stage. Sunrise is at 6:19am, in 2010 we got to Sunbury at 6:00am Stage 5: From Three Houses to Bath Park (STOP #5 = 27.4km, arrival time 7:00 to 7:30am) Distance: about 5.4km, 2010 pace: 7:12 min/km Terrain: initially flat, then downhill, cart road, grass, rocky until Consett Bay On the about 500m along the rocks from Consett Bay to Bath Beach you are likely to be in the water (depending on the tide up to your knees, maybe hips) There are showers at Bath Park to wash out sand and salt water before the next stage. Stage 6: From Bath Park to Martin's Bay (STOP #6 = 30.3km, arrival time 7:30 to 8:00am) Distance: about 2.9km, 2010 pace: 8:32 min/km (incl. 6mins stop to wash off sand) Terrain: flat, narrow, rocky, trail The trail is not difficult as long as it is dry. Stage 7: From Martin's Bay to Cattlewash (STOP #7 = 35.2km, arrival time 8:00 to 8:30am) Distance: about 4.8km, 2010 pace: 7:07 min/km Terrain: flat, narrow, rocky, trail The trail is not difficult as long as it is dry, but it's a longer stretch and at the end you cross Joe's River and come along the beach. Stage 8: From Cattlewash to Belleplaine (STOP #8 - FINISH = 40.4km, arrival time 8:30 to 9:00am) Distance: about 5.2km, 2010 pace: 5:58 min/km Terrain: road It will be hot and there is the option to have an additional stop at Barclay's Park Anybody planning to run considerably slower or faster than the above paces should check with me to make arrangements. |
